Overview
A 9-day self-drive loop from Los Angeles through the classic Southwest. The route runs LA - Palm Springs - the Grand Canyon South Rim - Route 66 at Williams and Seligman - Las Vegas - Death Valley - back to LA, with a night each in most stops and two in Vegas and at the Grand Canyon gateway. Includes 8 nights of mid-range hotels, a full-size rental car with unlimited mileage and basic cover, and a road book with routes, timings and reservations for the national parks.

Itinerary
Collect your rental car at LAX and drive to your hotel in Santa Monica or Hollywood. Afternoon for the beach, the pier and the Walk of Fame.
A day in LA - Griffith Observatory, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, the Getty Center, or a theme-park day at Universal Studios Hollywood (optional).
Drive east into the desert to Palm Springs (about 2 hours). Ride the rotating Aerial Tramway up Mount San Jacinto and relax by the pool. Overnight Palm Springs.
A long, scenic drive across Arizona to the Grand Canyon South Rim (about 6-7 hours) with a stop for Route 66 nostalgia. Sunset at Mather Point. Two nights near the park.
A full day on the South Rim - the Rim Trail, Hermit Road viewpoints by shuttle, and the Desert View Watchtower, with an optional helicopter flight or a hike partway down the Bright Angel Trail.
Drive west via Williams and Seligman for Route 66, crossing the Hoover Dam into Nevada. Two nights in Las Vegas on the Strip.
A free day and night in Vegas - the themed resorts, the Bellagio fountains, the High Roller wheel, or optional day trips to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend or the Valley of Fire.
Drive through Death Valley National Park - Zabriskie Point, Badwater Basin and the dunes - then on toward the Los Angeles area for your final night.
Return the rental car at LAX and check in for your onward flight.
