Overview
An 8-day tour of the Inca heartland with proper time to acclimatise. It starts in Cusco with the cathedral, Qorikancha and the Sacsayhuaman ruins, then descends into the Sacred Valley for Pisac market and the terraces and fortress of Ollantaytambo. The scenic train reaches Aguas Calientes for an early guided visit to Machu Picchu. An optional dawn hike up Rainbow Mountain rounds out the trip. Includes 7 nights of hotels with breakfast, the Vistadome train and all entrance fees and guiding listed.

Itinerary
Arrive at Cusco (3,400 m) and transfer to your hotel. Take it easy for the first day to acclimatise, with coca tea and a short walk around the Plaza de Armas.
Afternoon guided tour of the cathedral, the Qorikancha sun temple, and the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Q'enqo and Tambomachay. Morning kept free to continue acclimatising.
A full day through the valley: the terraced market town of Pisac, a buffet lunch near Urubamba, and the massive terraces and temple of Ollantaytambo. Overnight in the valley at lower altitude.
Morning at the Maras salt pans and the circular terraces of Moray, then board the Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. Evening at leisure in the town below Machu Picchu.
Early bus up to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the citadel as the crowds are still light, with free time afterwards and an optional climb of Huayna Picchu (pre-booked). Return by train and car to Cusco.
Optional pre-dawn departure for the hike to Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain, at over 5,000 m; otherwise a free day in Cusco for the San Pedro market and San Blas artisan quarter.
A free day for museums, a chocolate or weaving workshop, or a short trip to the Inca site of Pikillacta and the colonial chapel of Andahuaylillas.
Transfer to Cusco airport for your flight to Lima or onward.
