A 7-day rail-based tour through the Swiss heartland, starting in Lucerne and basing three nights in Interlaken between the lakes of Thun and Brienz. Itinerary
Arrive at Zurich Airport and travel by train to Lucerne (about 50 minutes). Check in near the old town and spend the afternoon on the Chapel Bridge, the waterfront and the Lion Monument before an optional group dinner.
A full day on the "golden round trip" to Mount Pilatus - boat across Lake Lucerne, the world's steepest cogwheel railway to the summit, and a cable-car and gondola descent. Evening at leisure in Lucerne.
Board the Golden Pass panoramic train through the Brunig Pass, past Lake Brienz to Interlaken. Check in for a three-night stay; the afternoon is free to explore the Hoheweg promenade and the two lakes.
A guided excursion by cogwheel railway via Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch at 3,454 m, with the Sphinx observation deck, Ice Palace and Aletsch Glacier views. Return to Interlaken by evening.
Travel to Grindelwald, then cable car to Murren and up to the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant on the Schilthorn for 360-degree views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Afternoon walk on a section of the North Face trail.
Morning cruise on turquoise Lake Brienz, then a train to Bern for a guided walk through the UNESCO-listed arcaded old town, the Bear Park and the clock tower. Overnight in Bern or back in Interlaken.
Breakfast, then a train transfer to Zurich Airport (about two hours) for your onward flight.
